Round 7 of the Junior Kart Championship (JKC / CKC) at Hooton Park Circuit. Chassis is a Tonykart Junior. Engine is a Rotax Junior Max two-stroke. Another dry race weekend, with a bearable 20+ deg. Quite a bit of testing was completed on the Friday and Saturday. The team struggled due to using a mixture of old Mojos and used Komets, and could really do with a new test set of K2Hs for the next round. Grid size: 16. Heat 1 went from P14 to P3 with 35.834. Heat 2 went from P7 to P5 with 35.855. Heat 3 went from P2 to P6 with 35.770 (PB). The Final went from P4 to P13 with 36.067. Heat 1 started near the back, but due to a racing incident at turn 1 they moved up to 7th by the first lap. New rubber helped, getting them to 2nd by lap 11, but the tyres were starting to go off at that point. They finished 4th but were promoted to 3rd due to penalties, the best finish in the CKC so far. Heat 2 had a good start, reached 4th at one point, and finished 5th. Heat 3 had another good start but finished 6th. The Final had a strong start on the first lap, keeping 4th. A couple of laps in Sam lost two places at turn 1, tried to recover at turn 3, got closed down, tried to stop any contact but spun which caused an incident, lost 5 places to 10th, and caused problems for a few others. After a few battles near the end they finished 13th. Hooton Park Circuit is the back yard for some of the JKC drivers, so it was not going to be easy. P4 start for the final was a great achievement. P13 finish hurt a little. Due to finances Sam is only out karting once a month. Hayes-Roberts Colin of NWKP Racing Engines gave a lot of useful information about the Rotax engine and carb. Rick Varley gave a hand over the weekend. Ollie Naylor Racing 85 took 3rd place in the final. Next round of the JKC is at Ellough Park Raceway, Beccles, weekend of 1st October. Sam has a front and rear cam attached to his kart.
