This first official video covers a custom-welded racing go-kart project. The goal was a racing or shifter kart without buying one, not a small Briggs and Stratton 4-stroke or another Predator, but a strong engine that would still fit a smaller racing frame. The engine is an old 1975 SnoJet AstroJet 440cc 2-stroke (Yamaha): a 2-cylinder unit with a stiff Bombardier CVT for torque, rated at over 50 hp and 45 ft lbs of torque. 440cc 2-stroke is the size chosen for this build. The frame will be based on a Tony Kart Extreme. Tubing is planned as chromoly if heat treat is available, or stainless steel, not regular mild steel that rusts and hides TIG stack-of-dimes welds. Everything will be TIG welded, and a very simple lathe will be made to modify a few vital parts. Components are shown being made from raw metal with affordable tools. Aluminum and other exotic metals will be welded to keep the kart light while staying rigid. This video begins TIG welding and repairing a small used aluminum racing seat bought online.
