What actually causes an engine blow up?

A two-stroke kart engine has no separate oil system, so the piston skirt, rings, and cylinder wall are lubricated only by oil carried in the fuel charge. If that charge is oil-poor (wrong premix, poor mixing, or a lean carburetor that meters too little fuel and therefore too little oil), the film on the bore collapses, friction spikes, and the piston can scuff or seize with a characteristically dry appearance. High EGT is often treated as the cause rather than a correlated symptom. A lean mixture both raises combustion temperature (less evaporative cooling from the fuel) and reduces oil delivery to the bore. Short dry cranking after a recent run is unlikely to destroy a residual boundary film on its own. The open question is which mechanism actually dominates a typical blow-up, and whether a dry-looking piston is enough to separate oil starvation from a thermally overloaded crown.
