Vortex Rok GP octane, what's your take?
The Rok GP manual calls for a minimum of 95 RON, which converts to roughly 91 on the (R+M)/2 scale used in the US. Many competitors still run 110 or 112 race fuels anyway. Octane rating quantifies resistance to auto-ignition under heat and pressure; it is not an energy-content or power number. When stock compression and ignition timing already stay clear of knock on lower-octane fuel, the extra margin does not free additional output and can alter flame speed depending on the blend chemistry. Advancing timing solely to exploit that margin risks shifting peak cylinder pressure earlier in the cycle, which reduces the effective torque contribution rather than increasing it.
Is the high-octane habit simply insurance, or does anyone have combustion or EGT data showing a real difference at the manual minimum versus the usual race fuels?
