Recurring issues with the KA100

I only get evenings and maybe an hour at the track before they grid, so I'm not throwing a coil at this KA100 unless it's actually going to put us on the track Saturday. It starts to spit when they get back on it after a slow corner. Is there a cheap driveway check that matters more coil gap or a bad ground or something, before I burn the whole weekend chasing ignition.
