playing next video in 5 seconds
Onboard with Remo Luciani, 2022 Victorian State Champion, in Heat 1 from 25th to 7th. Practice on Friday began smoothly with the fastest time in KA3 Senior Medium. The next two sessions were mediocre, so new rubber went on to check pace. Fastest in the first timed session was 44.849 on new tyres, and fastest in the second timed session was 44.935 on the second run with new tyres. Friday afternoon still looked strong. Qualifying started from grid 1, then about 300 meters from the grid the spark plug fouled. The kart was pulled off the side of the track, the engine was restarted, and the session was rejoined. After only a few laps a black flag was given for hopping out and repairing on the side of the track. The penalty was accepted and the qualifying time was deleted, which meant starting at the rear of the grid in the first two heats. In the pits the plan was to pass as many karts as possible in the heats without crashing, drawing on 42 years of racing. Starting from the back was familiar, because in the old days time-trials were only at a State or National Championship, so drawing the grid was normal.
