What money saving hacks actually work for karting?
Used chains stretch out quick if you don't check the sprocket wear first. Swapping just the chain never lasts because the teeth get hooked and that usually costs more in the end. What other cheap fixes have people found that don't come back to bite you later.

Used chain on a hooked gear is the classic one. Cheap now, new chain and new gear in two race days.
What actually holds:
Check the driver and rear gear every time you look at chain slack. If the teeth are hooked, replace both. A $20 chain on a worn 15T is not a save.
Do not buy mystery used tires for a points night. One set that never comes in is more expensive than one new spec set you can control.
Reuse good hardware. Pitch bolts, seat stays, and rod ends if they are straight and the threads are clean. Throw away stretched bolts.
One good torque wrench and a cheap digital scale beat three “deal” tools you do not trust.
Clean and oil the chain instead of replacing it early. Wipe it, lube it, check alignment. A crooked chain eats sprockets.
Keep a spare plug, clip, and key in the box. A DNF to save $8 is not cheap.
Buy used only when you can measure it: axle runout, clutch drum, bearings. If you cannot check it, it is not a deal.

Chasing a new trailer plus fresh tires every few races will drain the account faster than anything else in this game. Plenty of people just slide a couple karts into the pickup and run the whole weekend from there, that skips the big purchase the extra fuel burn and the insurance on another vehicle.
You can also put together a stand that holds two karts with a simple winch and homemade ramps so one person can load it all, leftover steel keeps the cost down. Used tires that still have life left often work every bit as well as new and they can even make the kart more predictable to drive. The part that costs nothing is going over the bearings and toe after each day. Neglect that and even good used bits will let you down later.
