Ins and outs of brake pedal stiffness

From what I've picked up a softer brake pedal can make it tougher to feel the exact point where the tires start to lock up when you're trying to get the most out of them. Does anyone know if that pedal stiffness stays pretty consistent or if it changes once the brakes have heated up after a few hard laps?
