Cargo trailer or toy hauler, which to pick?
I'm trying to decide between outfitting a basic cargo trailer with some living basics or just going for a small toy hauler for race weekends and the odd family trip. From what I understand the toy hauler route already includes the ramp and sleeping or kitchen space but those units usually weigh more empty, which matters a lot when you're limited to half-ton towing capacity and still need room for a kart. Honestly not sure the convenience always balances out against the extra weight and cost. Anyone else landed on one or the other, and is there anything about size or new versus used that tends to matter most in this range?

If the plan is race weekends plus a bit of camping, I would take the toy hauler over a plain cargo box. A compact unit like the Greywolf 19RR already has the ramp plus heat, air conditioning, microwave, toilet, shower and a real bed. Those basics change the whole feel of a weekend at the track and make it easy for the family to come along.
One thing that does matter is ramp placement. Side ramps force you into buying two pit spots more often than not because space gets tight once everyone is set up. Stick with a rear ramp and you keep life simpler.
Empty weight is still the real limiter on a half-ton, so measure carefully and do not overbuy. Used can work fine in this size range if the frame and ramp hardware check out, but the living side is what most people end up glad they paid for..
